I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, & THE LIFE

Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together.
If you’re launching a new Group, trust and friendship take time to build. Take turns each week having someone share a bit of their story.

Read Together: JOHN 14:1-6 CSB
As Jesus prepared His disciples for His departure, He offered them comfort and clarity with one of His most famous declarations: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Jesus wasn't simply showing the way to God, teaching the truth about God, or offering a better life. He was claiming to be the way, the truth, and the life Himself. Because Jesus is the way, we can confidently follow Him. Because He is the truth, we can trust Him. Because He is the life, we can find joy, purpose, strength, and eternal hope in Him.
The One Question:
If you only have time for one question, ask this one.
Which part of Jesus' declaration—the way, the truth, or the life—do you most need to lean into right now?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your Group or for personal reflection.
- What stands out to you most in this passage?
- Jesus says, "I am the way." Why do you think people are often more comfortable with Jesus being a way rather than the way?
- Jesus says, "I am the truth." How is that different from saying Jesus simply teaches truth?
- In this sermon, Barry said, "Knowing truth is about knowing Jesus." How does knowing Jesus personally differ from merely knowing facts about Him?
- The message addressed common misconceptions about hearing God's voice. Which misconception resonates most with you and why?
- God only speaks to special people.
- God's voice is always dramatic.
- I'm too sinful for God to speak to me.
- Jesus says, "I am the life." What do you think abundant life means? How is it different from comfort, success, or ease?
- Barry shared that God's voice often comes through Scripture, gentle prompts, recurring thoughts, or quiet conviction. How have you experienced God speaking in your own life?
Pray Together:
- Thank Jesus for making a way for us to know God and be reconciled to Him.
- Thank Him for being the truth we can trust in a confusing and changing world.
- Thank Him for being the source of life, joy, hope, and strength.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to help you recognize and respond to God's voice.
- Confess any ways you've looked for direction, truth, or fulfillment apart from Jesus.
- Pray for courage to follow Jesus wholeheartedly as the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Next Steps:
- Read John 14 this week: Slowly reflect on what Jesus reveals about Himself and His relationship with the Father.
- Practice listening: Spend five minutes each day in silence, asking God, "What do You want me to know today?"
- Stay in the Word: Read a portion of Scripture daily and ask, "What does this teach me about Jesus?"
- Challenge misconceptions: If you've believed God only speaks to certain people, ask Him to help you become more attentive to His voice.
- Follow the Way: Identify one area where Jesus is asking for obedience and take a practical step this week.
- Walk in the Truth: Replace one lie you've been believing with a specific truth from Scripture.
- Choose Life: When stress, discouragement, or disappointment arises, intentionally turn toward Jesus as your source of joy, strength, and peace.
- Share your story: Tell someone about a time Jesus provided guidance, truth, or life when you needed it most.
