CHRIST SET US FREE
March 29 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together.
If you’re launching a new Group, trust and friendship take time to build. Take turns each week having someone share a bit of their story.

Read Together: Galatians 4:21–5:1 CSB
Paul uses the story of Abraham’s two sons to contrast two ways of living: one rooted in human effort and slavery, and the other in God’s promise and freedom. The Galatians, who had already experienced the freedom of the Gospel, were in danger of returning to a system of performance and law-keeping. Paul reminds them that they are not children of slavery but children of promise—set free by Christ Himself. True freedom is not something we achieve through effort or sustain through performance; it is given by Jesus and lived out by walking in the Spirit. Because of this, Paul urges them to stand firm and not return to the weight of a yoke that Christ has already broken.
The One Question:
If you only have time for one question, ask this one.
Paul says, “For freedom, Christ set us free.” What do you think it means that Jesus didn’t just free us from something, but for something?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your Group or for personal reflection.
- When you hear the word “freedom,” how do you naturally define it? How does that compare to the kind of freedom Paul is describing?
- Pastor Sean said, “What was promised in the Spirit, they tried to achieve in the flesh.” Where does that idea show up in everyday life?
- What are some “yokes” people today might unknowingly put back on themselves?
- What helps you remember your identity as someone who has been set free?
- What does it practically look like to “stand firm” in your freedom in Christ in your current season of life?
Pray Together:
- Thank Jesus for being the true source of your freedom.
- Confess any areas where you’ve been striving in your own strength.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to help you walk in freedom daily, not just believe it intellectually.
- Pray for courage to stand firm and not return to old patterns, mindsets, or sin.
- Ask God to deepen your trust in His promises rather than your own effort.
Next Steps:
- Pay attention this week to moments when you feel pressure to “perform” or prove yourself—pause and remind yourself: Christ has already set me free.
- Identify one area where you’ve been relying on your own strength and intentionally surrender it to God in prayer each day.
- Replace one performance-driven habit with a relationship-driven rhythm (e.g., prayer, Scripture, worship, silence before God).
- Take 5 minutes each day to reflect on this phrase: “For freedom, Christ set me free.” Ask God to show you what it means to actually live that out.
