The Bigger Battle
November 10 | Discipleship Guide
Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DG, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DG share their story.
Read Together: John 14:27-31 CSB
Pastor Sean taught us about "Peace in the Chaos". We learned that when asked to imagine peace, most people imagine themselves alone somewhere in nature, without any other people, because often disagreements and miscommunications with others threaten our earthly peace. Essentially most of us idealize a peace reliant on the absent of others. In John Ch 14:27-31 Jesus speaks to us of a different kind of peace.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.
What daily circumstances have threatened your earthly peace? What would it look like for you to rely on Jesus' peace instead of earthly peace? How would that feel?
Grow Together:
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.
1. Jesus didn't just leave us with his peace in theory or idea, he left us with a relationship. We can experience Jesus' true peace because the Holy Spirit comforts and guides us from within.
2. Are you engaging with the Holy Spirit in relationship, or simply with facts, knowledge, and ideas about the spirit? What is the difference?
3. Our peace is constantly under attack from the enemy. We must fight daily to experience relationship with the Holy Spirit and find His peace.
What things are you tempted to turn to when your earthly peace is threatened? How can you battle that habit and draw instead on Jesus' peace?
