Application is the point of all Bible study, so let's take a closer look at how we can apply these verses, and more rightly dwell in Jesus.
The One Question:
Ask this question at your family meal or Discipleship Group.
In the above passage, Jesus compares himself to a vine and us to the branches. How does this verse shape your perspective on what it looks like to be the Church in 2024?
Use these questions to go deeper with your DG or for personal study.
1. Quiet time with Jesus isn’t just a time for us learn about God; it is also a time for us to learn about how we become like him through the process of sanctification - the action of making or declaring something holy.
When we encounter the Scriptures it should lead us to repentance - the turning away from our sin to live a holy life of obedience to God. Does your quiet time frequently result in repentance? If not, take a moment to identify what you typically view as the purpose of your time in the Bible.
2. If we are rightly living out our faith, our lives should lead others to live lives of obedience. As a group, take a moment to silently ask the Holy Spirit if your life reflects obedience to Christ. If you have a clear answer, be honest about that with your discipleship group.
3. While we are to feel sorrow for our sin, and make up our mind's to do what is right, we can also acknowledge the goodness of God in our process of repentance. Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, we don't have to experience the weeping and gnashing of teeth. How do you view repentance? What could look like to celebrate the goodness of God in the midst of repenting from your sin?
